Hi everyone! Thank you for both reading the fic and caring enough to come and read my commentary! I've never done a fic commentary before, but with this fic, it turns out I have lots of thoughts about wish babies, taking about nine months to write said fic, and also writing fic for a show I have not watched. [As a note, I wrote this between Feb. 12 and March 2nd, so it doesn't involve anything to do with S8b or my more recent, ongoing watch-through.]

First, as of typing this, I've seen ... two or three episodes of 9-1-1. The season 8 Halloween episode got posted on twitter and so I watched it, then I watched the next... 2? Live. SO that was fun (Eddie Risky Business dancing and BuckTommy breakup live was an incredible way to start watching officially/unofficially). But for the majority of writing this fic, I was basing a lot of things off of what I learned from my friends in the fandom, who put together a powerpoint about the show/buddie specifically. Also I've read frankly more than my fair share of fic, and watched tons of edits.

WISH BABIES! As I said in the author's note, I started writing this fic because in a discord, we were talking about wish baby fics, and how they aren't terribly widespread, or popular. But those of us who've read them and written them love them, and we want more wish baby fics in the world. We were also talking about buddie/Bi!Buck in a different channel, so we all agreed that Buck would absolutely be someone who would get an accidental wish baby. And thus, this fic was spawned.

The main thing about wish babies is that "babies are born because people wish them out of the sky." When I first encountered the idea/what I believe is the original wish baby fic, I was thinking of it in a way that means every baby is wanted, and everyone who wants a baby enough can wish one into existence. Essentially doing away with people having children who don't want them and infertility in one fell swoop. But in thinking about how wish babies exist within a canon that includes that not-quite-happy accidental baby that is Chris, and the whole Eddie and Shannon of it all, I got to think about how wishing could be accidentally mis-directed toward a baby. Similar to how people sometimes think a baby will fix a relationship and that's practically never the right move, but with more wiggle room. Of course, wish baby universes are similar to the omegaverse in that there is no one set of rules, so if you prefer a wish baby universe in which many babies are born the quote-unquote “usual” way, but there are also babies wished out of the sky, that works too. But that's not the wish baby universe of this fic.

I should be sleeping. Instead, I'm watching Mythbusters, cleaning out my icons on my computer, EXCITED I GOT TWO NEW SPACES AND THUS TWO NEW ICONS... and now I'm going to tell you some thoughts about iChristmas. Because I can, I want to, and I've watched it more than twice in the last four-ish days.

- Apparently when Spencer was "born normal" he became a Stepford husband/lawyer. That's not normal. That's CREEPY.

- Carly has never seen any Christmas movie ever, right? Mitch is clearly Clarence, and angels have to get their wings. Duh. But nicely done with chicken wings.

- Spencer and Mama B are a creeeeeepy couple. Not to mention their Stepford-ness. Plus, you know if they're getting engaged they're sleeping together, and my mind is so upset it went there. Mostly because Mama B porn-thoughts make me uncomfortable, probably because she is a total wild beast and awesome, but she is Mama B. Just no. Also because my mind has already gone there because of that one fic jannika wrote where they hook up drunkenly post-Christmas party.

- I like what this episode does for the trio's dynamic. Or rather, the dynamic our main trio has with Carly. I think the Spencer relationship is super obvious, and was spelled out during the episode. And Sam's relationship with Carly shows in very much the same way that folkloric_feel and I have been known to discuss via iWon't Cancel the Show. So let's start with Freddie:

Freddie lets Rona WALK ALL OVER HIM. He buys her whatever she wants. For what? The fact that she stayed, and was some form of a girlfriend for him. He needs some affection, some friends. And did you notice his outfits and his backpack? Mommy-picked, for sure. Just like Carly's style has always been out there in regular canon, and so making more out - there decisions (for a Benson) rubbed off on Freddie. Without Carly as a legitimate potential girlfriend, and a friend that appreciates him, listens to his opinion, makes fun of him affectionately, well, Freddie has no personality. And it's not just because Carly is wonderful and magical and all that - Freddie's always been a Mama's boy, and Mama Benson is overbearing. Carly lives across the hallway and is someone Mrs. Benson knows, knows her family, and can butt in at any time. For anyone else, any other situation, Freddie would have way less freedom, and so much less a personality.

Sam. Well, iChristmas shows us that Sam would be in juvie without Carly. And I also have to say that all of those little character details are fantastic about Sam. And really, it's not that Carly has "kept Sam out of trouble" - but she's put her scheming and her mind and so much of her to good use instead of something illegal. iCarly especially. But also keeping her occupied, talking her out of going all aggressive in other ways when she's pissed or anything else. Best friends are so good that way. It's not just that you could call Sam a special case, it's that everyone needs a best friend.

- Jennette is a fanstasic actor. Miranda cannot fake cry.

- Normal trees can catch fire too, Carly Shay.

- Who goes to school on Christmas Eve?

Guess what I wasted a fair portion of my afternoon doing? Well, I slept for like an hour, but I also read fic! That's right, I read Spam fic, and thank goodness, since the last time I dared look on FF, they were better, there were more, and there was at least partial smut. Victory! Right? Well, yes. Admittedly, they were OOC, I somehow stumbled into chaptered unfinished fics, and there was really random angst. Anywho. I realized, there are things I take for granted and think, but other people do nooooot. So, list!

1. I do not believe Sam will lose her virginity to Spencer. I do not think he will be her first real relationship, I do not think that she will fall into goo-ness when they start dating.

2. I hate college fics. Most of the time. Yes, Carly and Freddie will most likely go away to college, and Sam will most likely not even or she will go to community college. Moving in with Spencer will very rarely be plausible, and it's been far too overdone that she and Spencer will fall into serious relationship category while Carly is away at school before she knows.

3. I do not like where Sam "changes" and suddenly looks more adult and that's why Spencer is suddenly interested in her.

4. I do not believe that Sam has been crushing on Spencer for a long time, or if she has, she has not acknowledged it.

5. The child from iSpace Out was not a time-traveling future daughter of Sam and Spencer. Just... no. ~~Especially when the fic is told from her first person POV. Just... NO.~~

6. I do not care whether they are a secret relationship or a public one. Either depends on timing, situation of the fic, time period, etc. But either way it's done has to be logic and consistent.

7. Carly (I believe) will not automatically love the relationship when or if she finds out. She will react, she will be confused, and on some level she will be hurt and/or feel betrayed. I also do not think she will encourage Spencer in his affections before there is any sort of relationship. That being said, Carly will ultimately play a very large role in any public relationship there is.

8. I don't like first person in general, but I REALLY don't like first person when the POV switches within the same scene, and I really really do not like first person when it points out just how terribly awful your characterization is. Sure, delve into Spencer or Sam or even Carly's mind - but do it well. Or at least not suckishly.

9. I am not saying that Sam and Spencer can't get engaged, and I am not saying that Sam cannot get pregnant, but I will say that neither will rush into the relationship, specifically this relationship, and I know lots and lots of sexual tension floats around between them, but for heaven's sake, A- be committed one way or the other if they're going to have sex and B- they are not idiots. Do not portray them as such.

10. I don't care how in love she is, Sam will not cry or sob at the drop of a hat. I just - feel like that needs to be out there. She can be angsty without tears.

11. I really really do not think that Spencer will take Sam's virginity. And even if he does, it would be out of character for her to tell him, and inappropriate to mention in the middle of whatever sex scene is being written. That conversation, if it occurs, will be before or it will be after. It might even stop in the middle, because it doesn't continue.

The weirdest and most terrible part of this is that I can't critique (well, yes I could) fics based on these. Some people will see characterizations differently. Some things are personal preference, and only some of these go hand in hand with good or bad writing skills.

ETA: Number twelve? What the crap is with having Sam be a smoker? And Spencer also sort of kind of too? And like, he usually smokes pot, not cigarettes? Where did this mentality come from? Okay, lie, I know where, but WHY was it put in place? *irritated*

Another thing, watching season one Kim Possible is weeeeeeeeird. (1) Will Freidle still sounds like Will Freidle, NOT Ron Stoppable, and Christy still sounds like Christy, NOT Kim. I like it when they have formed their character voices. It's so much better. *nods* (2) There's music. Like, a lot of music. One episode there were two songs that are on the soundtrack. It just didn't feel quite right. (3) Wade is not so animated. I was all... O.o ? He seriously says, "Your arch nemesis Dr. Drakken!" A huh. (3) Drakken and Shego... their characters are not quite as fun. SO much meaner. And the little Kim-Shego banter that there was was ... bad. And about fashion. wtf? (4) The animation drives. me. crazy. It's all choppy and... weird.

*sigh* But I still love it. Just not as much as the later seasons.
